Balgonie Castle

The Great Hall is said to be most haunted area, with apparitions (such as a disembodied head, a white figure and shadowy shapes) and voices having been reported, and the occasional smell of pipe smoke; this may be connected to a skeleton found buried under the floor in 1912. Another apparition is one time owner Alexander Leslie, who was imprisoned in the Tower of London after his side lost to Cromwell in the Civil War. A scarcely seen phantom is Green Jeanie, who wears a long dress and hood which obscures her features. A 16th or 17th century soldier has also been seen; his arm is outstretched as if opening a door that no longer exists and he has also been seen walking through the gateway. A hooded figure, a medieval apparition and a phantom hound have also been described.
