Quay Street

The sound of horses hooves have been heard on this street and sometimes a coach and horses seen too; if seen, it is taken to be a sign of imminent death. The ghost of smuggler Valentine Bailey and his victim, customs officer John Smith have been seen here. Bailey murdered the officer and ran off but a witness provided a description, and he was captured and executed. Other phantoms here include a lady carrying a loaf of bread on her head (!), and an old lady with a hump, holding one of her hands behind her.
