Barlborough Hall

A priest hole was used in the 16th century to conceal Catholic priests but one such attempt was unsuccesful and the poor man was murdered in his hiding place. He is still said to haunt an upper room, and it is reputed that his blood stains have resisted attempts to be washed away. It is said that on moonlit nights, a "Grey Bride" can be seen on the battlements. She is said to have thrown herself from them after learning on her wedding day that her husband-to-be had died when his coach overturned on his way to the church.
