RAF Lichfield

Although largely built upon and no longer a working airfield, the headless ghost of a rear gunner has been seen on the old site. It is said that he was killed when he walked into the spinning propeller blades of a Lancaster bomber in World War 2. During one take-off, an aircrew realised that one of the engines of their aircraft was on fire and they crashed while attempting to return to base. The crew were killed, and ground staff were injured when the bomb being carried by the aircraft detonated. It is said that men dressed as pilots have been seen wandering beside the A38 near the site of the airfield.
