St John's College

The ghost that haunts this college was beheaded in 1645 for standing up to Oliver Cromwell. The name of the unfortunate individual was William Laud, an Archbishop, and his body was interred in the chapel. His favourite spot seems to be library and his ghost has a habit of pulling his head from his neck and rolling it at witnesses. His ghost seems to walk above the level of the ground, which has worn down since his day. However, his ghost is said to cut off at its knees in the library, again due to a change in floor level.
