St John Baptist and St Helen Church

A ghost haunts the area of a huge, ancient yew tree in the churchyard; one story is that the spectre is a man who committed suicide by hanging himself from one of the branches; another story is that it is a women buried nearby, who took a secret with her to her grave. According to local legend, the ghost can be summoned by running three times round the tree without drawing breath! There is also the phantom of a lady in a tattered, ash-coloured dress of the Victorian era, usually seen at the north end of the churchyard. When she is approached, she will gaze at you with "an icy stare" before vanishing.
