Princess Alice Disaster Site

In 1878, the pleasure cruiser Princess Alice, carrying hundreds of passengers, was struck by the collier Bywell Castle. Many of those on board were killed in the collision, drowned or died as a result of infection from the polluted water. The screams of those cast into the water have been reported here, on the anniversary of the disaster (September 3rd) it is said.
