Moyles Court School

The ghost of Dame Alice Lisle has been seen here and in the surrounding lanes. She is said to be driven up to the court drawn by headless horses, or that she is carrying her head under her arm. She was executed under the orders of Judge Jeffreys after she had taken pity on two men who had taken part in the Monmouth Rebellion and hid them. She had no allegience to the cause but the fact that she took the men in to her home was enough to signal her doom. The strong, unexplained smell of violets has also been detected on occasion too.
