Hastings Castle

A spectral woman wearing a brown cloak and hood has been seen here; she is sometimes described as being a nun, and sometimes carrying a bundle, like a baby. In 1976 a close look at the phantom identified her as Agnes Silby, a 14th century lover of the dean of the castle's chapel. However, a local legend says that she is the spurned lover of a local fisherman, who was rejected when she became pregnant and disposed of her baby and herself after she gave birth, supposedly by jumping from the cliff top. The dungeons are also said to be haunted and screams have been heard in the area after dark. Additionally, there are claims of a phantom drummer and a "Grey Lady."
