Rough Tor

In 1844, Charlotte Dymond worked at the farmstead of Lower Penhale, where she cooked and cleaned. Labourer Matthew Weeks was seeing her and hoped to marry her but in the day she was killed Charlotte teased him about how local men had expressed an interest in her. Matthew's patience snapped and he cut her throat before fleeing to Portsmouth. Since then, Charlotte's ghost has apparently been seen on the moors in the area of her memorial, where she has been reported wearing a red shawl and silk bonnet. At least one source says that she appears on the anniversary of her death - April 14th.
