The Tolbooth

In 18th century garb, the spectre is said to be Allan Mair, who was hanged after being found guilty of beating his wife to death. During his execution, he managed to free his hands and tried to remove the noose but the hangman grabbed hold of his legs and the extra weight took Mair to his doom. In addition to his ghost, bottles of booze being broken and sounds heard in the old cells, and many other phenomena have also been referred to as occurring here.
