South Wingfield Manor

This ruined manor was once the place where Mary, Queen of Scots was held under house arrest. She is reported to have been seen in the building, and walking across the crypt where she vanishes into a now blocked-off door. There have been instances of footsteps having been heard and perfume being smelt in the area of the entrance to the undercroft, where a blue light has also been seen; lights have also been seen inside the ruined walls too. In one spectacular case, a workman saw an army of Parliamentary soldiers who were about to re-live the building's demolition. Mary and Anthony Babington, who plotted to obtain her release, have been seen in the grounds; a spectral cat has also been observed and footsteps, moans, bangings, whispering and lights reported from empty rooms.
