The Sportsman's Arms

The figure of a male spectre, wearing a white shirt and a black waistcoat used to be seen here; he was said to be former licensee Harry Clements, who died in 1956. When he passed away the clock in the bar ceased to work and no amount of effort would coax it into restarting. The phantom was quite a regular, and the occasional smell of fish and chips was attributed to the time that Clement's family used to buy food from the shop next door to eat in the pub. Unfortunately, a major refurbishment of the pub in 2001, which involved the removal of the marble and wood fireplace seems to have banished the ghost. Whether the ghost remains dormant is anyone's guess.
