Arrow Mill Hotel

A grey lady is said to be seen on the first floor and was thought by one of the proprietors to be a nuisance; it does not seem that she is seen very often perhaps due to remodelling of this area. It is thought that the lady was one of two sisters who ran the mill in the 16th or 17th century and was caught in the machinery, killing her. Occasionally, it is said that the river runs red, a spectral remnant of the time a human head was found wedged in the sluice. It seems that a miller in the 19th century had an argument with his wife and in a fit of rage, decapitated her and threw the cranium in the river. The opaque shadow of a heavy man, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and with his arms a little way from its side was once seen in the bar; the witness soon after sought employment at another hotel!
