Borley Church

Footsteps, tappings, cries, voices and organ music have been heard even when the church is empty. A groundskeeper saw a nun during the day in the churchyard - she was described as seemingly waiting for someone and was standing by the hedge, wearing a black gown with a gold bodice. Also in the yard, the smell of incense and the sound of footsteps have been detected and the door to the church has been locked and unlocked and rattled on occasion. It is also said that on July 28th every year, the phantom nun appears at the gates to the church and walks up the road, pausing briefly at gate posts before vanishing.
