Devizes Castle

A "White Lady" walks the corridors of this castle; some say that she Lady Isabella, wife of King Richard II but historical documents disprove this. A little old lady has been seen in the main hall, leaning on a stick. In addition, a Cavalier runs down the main staircase accompanied by an icy wind, and a man's voice and shuffling noises have been heard in one of the upstairs bedrooms, believed to be a soldier who was a member of the Wiltshire Regiment in World War One, who were housed here. The soldier was unpopular and sleepwalked and his comrades gave him a room to himself and locked him in it. An elderly woman in 19th century widow's garb and using a walking stick has been observed in the upper gallery; dogs react to her presence even if she is not visible.
