Wardour Castle

The spectre of Lady Blanche Arundell in a long dark cloak has been observed wandering around the ruins of this castle, and near the lake usually at twilight. She lived here during the Civil War and was a Royalist; when Cromwell arrived she only had a small group of servants to defend her home as her husband was away fighting for the King. The Parliamentarian forces blasted the castle with their cannon and Lady Arundell eventually surrendered but was to die a few months later when she heard her husband had also been killed. The ghosts of a child and a priest are also to be seen; the latter may be one of those hidden when Catholics were being persecuted. The boy could be a youngster who infiltrated Parliamentarian forces, intent on sabotage.
