Holy Trinity Church

The stretch of land that goes over the river from Torrington to the church has exhibited the ghost of Louise Dillon, who has been seen walking home. She was murdered by the farmer husband in 1887, who killed himself soon afterwards. The church and churchyard themselves are haunted by another ghost that goes back to the 13th century. He is Sir Walter Gifford who walks from his old home at Weare Gifford Hall on moonlit nights and walks to the church door where he knocks on the door, which opens to admit him. It is said that he was not buried in the churchyard with with his wife as he was away from the town when he died.
