St Juthware and St Mary's Church

The church is named after Juthware; she was bequeathed a fortune by her late father and her stepmother became so insane with jealousy that she instigated lies that Juthware was seeing another man behind Bana, her loved one's, back. When he heard that she had given birth to an illegitimate child and had killed and disposed of the body he decapitated her. The body picked up the shorn head and carried it to the nearby church before dying. The stepmother confessed to her lies and was dealt with and Bana became a monk to atone for his deed. It is said that the corpse of Juthware, carrying her severed head, can be seen walking from Abbott's Hill to the church, usually in early November.
