Wessex Royale Hotel

The phantom of a lady in Victorian garb has been seen by people passing the hotel. She stands in a ground floor window as if waiting for someone. Another phantom here is an angry-looking man seen standing by the fireplace in the lounge. On one occasion, he spoke, claiming that he was murdered in the building. This sighting was also accompanied by the smell of beer. A lady who stopped at the hotel reported seeing a flash of light in her room; soon after, her book fell from the table onto the floor. Then she went to answer a loud knock on the door, but there was no-one there. When she return to her bed, all the covers on her side had been pulled back revealing the mattress. Then she saw "a large, swaying, black shape" at the end of her bed.
