Appuldurcombe House

This house, now merely a shell due to World War 2 bombing, is the haunt of spectral monks; one legend says that one such monk, ringing a bell is encountered in the nearby lanes. The monk was incarcerated in the house as he was deemed to be mad, but he was allowed to wander around at night for exercise, ringing a bell to warn locals of his presence. Tales abound of an old-fashioned carriage pulled by galloping horses which leaves no track behind them as they race along the road leading to the manor. Stories also exist of "former occupants" lurking inside the house, especially the cellar but no details have been given.
